Comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina is facing repercussions for insensitive content. Previously criticized for jokes about parents, Raina now faces another legal issue. Following complaints from the organization Cure SMA regarding jokes targeting individuals with disabilities, the court has ordered Raina to issue an unconditional apology. The Supreme Court has directed Raina and other influencers, including Vipul Goyal, Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai, Nishant Jagdish Tanwar, and Sonali Thakkar aka Sonali Aditya Desai, to apologize on their YouTube channels and other platforms. The court has also instructed the Indian government to establish guidelines to regulate jokes about disabled citizens on social media and maintain decorum. Justice Surya Kant emphasized the need for a balance between rights and responsibilities. He questioned the extent of such behavior, highlighting the potential for similar instances targeting other vulnerable groups. Previously, Justice Surya Kant condemned the comedians’ actions, stating that they were misusing the fundamental right to freedom of speech. Cure SMA, an organization supporting patients with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, initially filed the complaint against Raina and the other influencers.
