Sunjay Kapur, a prominent industrialist and Karisma Kapoor’s former spouse, died at the age of 53 in the United Kingdom. Reports indicate a heart attack as the cause, which occurred during a polo match. His poignant post on X, shared on June 9, has gained renewed attention. The message reflected on the limited nature of human existence.
The note stated, ‘Your time on Earth is limited. Leave the ‘what ifs’ to the philosophers and instead dive headfirst into the ‘why nots’.’ The accompanying caption read, ‘Progress demands bold choices, not perfect conditions’.
Earlier, before his passing, Kapur had also commented on the tragic airplane accident in Ahmedabad, expressing his condolences: ‘Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.’
Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar and a significant figure in the automotive sector. He also held the position of Chairman for the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region, overseeing operations in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and three Union Territories.
His marital history included an initial two-year marriage to designer Nandita Mahtani. He then married Karisma Kapoor in 2003, with whom he had two children, before divorcing in 2016. Following the divorce, he married model Priya Sachdev, with whom he had a son.
Following news of his demise, several celebrities, including Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and Malaika Arora, visited Karisma Kapoor’s residence in Mumbai.
