Sunny Deol is currently in the spotlight, gearing up for his upcoming film ‘Border 2,’ slated for release on January 26th. Simultaneously, he’s immersed in the production of ‘Lahore 1947.’ This historical drama is being directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, with Aamir Khan producing and Preity Zinta playing the lead heroine. During a recent interview, Deol shared insights into the making of ‘Lahore 1947,’ explaining how he conceived the idea for this historical drama.
In an interview with Zoom, Sunny Deol discussed the origin of ‘Lahore 1947.’ He stated that it was a subject that he and Rajkumar Santoshi had been discussing for years. He added that they tried to bring it to fruition, and it was only possible after the success of ‘Gadar.’ Aamir Khan approached him, expressing his desire to work on the project, and eventually, everyone agreed.
Discussing the film further, Deol highlighted the emotional depth of the subject matter. He mentioned that he and Rajkumar Santoshi have collaborated on three serious films, emphasizing the intensity and depth of the characters in ‘Lahore 1947.’ He described it as a drama adaptation, expressing hope for its early release.
The film is based on Asghar Wajahat’s famous play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Ni,’ set against the backdrop of the Partition. The story revolves around a Muslim family that settles in Lahore from Lucknow and is allotted a haveli previously occupied by a Hindu family. However, dramatic twists unfold when they discover the Hindu family still resides in the house and refuses to leave. Alongside Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, ‘Lahore 1947’ will feature Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Karan Deol in prominent roles.
It is believed that the makers are planning to release the film this year. On the other hand, Sunny Deol’s upcoming film will be the sequel to Border. ‘Border 2’, directed by JP Dutta, will feature Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in lead roles. ‘Border 2’ is scheduled for release on January 22, 2026.
