The new Karan Johar production presents a stylish romcom, though the screenplay has its shortcomings. Director Shashank Khaitan pays homage to Johar’s aesthetic, particularly in the visually striking musical sequences. The film showcases a cast of attractive individuals. Janhvi Kapoor, in the title role, is beautifully captured, and the camera focuses on her with care. Sanya Malhotra, playing the ‘souten’, is also presented in a positive light. The narrative revolves around a First World problem: Tulsi Kumari’s quest to win back her boyfriend, assisted by Sunny Sanskari (Varun Dhawan). They attend the destination wedding of their exes, who are marrying each other, a situation arising from societal pressures.
The film delves into the lives of the affluent, offering a glimpse into their world. The characters’ antics, especially those set in an Udaipur resort, are entertaining. One notable scene involves a playful ‘bust competition’ between the two women. Janhvi and Sanya infuse the story with charm. Janhvi takes time to fully embrace her character, then enjoys the plot’s lightheartedness. Rohit Sharaf’s performance as the treacherous suitor is noteworthy. Varun’s portrayal of Sunny is energetic, though with a touch of immaturity. The film is visually appealing and entertaining. The characters’ romantic decisions lead to amusing situations. Karan Johar makes a cameo appearance, showcasing his acting potential.
