The producers of the film ‘Thug Life,’ starring Kamal Haasan, have sought the intervention of the Supreme Court. They claim the Karnataka government has failed to provide security or assistance despite facing severe threats. These threats arose after Haasan’s comments regarding the Kannada language during the film’s audio launch in Chennai. His remarks, which linked the origins of Kannada to Tamil, triggered a strong reaction from pro-Kannada groups, leading to complaints and a ban on the film in Karnataka. The film’s team alleges that despite open threats of violence, including arson and attacks on Tamil-speaking residents, no FIRs were filed, and no action was taken by the state government, infringing on their right to free speech. The Supreme Court has requested a response from the Karnataka government. Haasan has stated his comments were misinterpreted.
