Trade Expert Explains Why Tum Mere Ho Struggled at Box Office
Mumbai, October 28: Both Tu Hai Meri Kiran and Tum Mere Ho have struggled to deliver the numbers that were anticipated. Trade analyst Girish Wankhede has offered an explanation for the situation, pointing to promotional gaps in one film and the weak appeal of music and cast in the other.
When it comes to Tu Hai Meri Kiran, which features Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal, Wankhede identified poor visibility as the biggest hurdle. He said many people were simply unaware the film was coming. Reports about its release emerged only about six or seven days before it arrived in cinemas, leaving little time to generate curiosity.
Wankhede argued that a film should be promoted at least one month ahead of release. He noted that Sonakshi does not have enough star power to pull in viewers without publicity. He asked how audiences could be expected to head to theatres if the film itself was hard to discuss or promote. He added that distributors were informed late, and that weak marketing directly limits a film’s reach.
He also referenced Sonakshi Sinha’s previous release, Nikita Roy, which had not found major success at the box office. This, he said, made it even more necessary to promote the new film heavily. Wankhede emphasised that building an artist’s recognition and maintaining steady buzz around a project are both important. He concluded that releasing a film is not enough on its own to draw audiences.
Turning to Tum Mere Ho, starring Gurmeet Choudhary, Wankhede said the film did not offer anything special that would make people buy tickets. Music, he noted, is a key component of romantic films, but the songs of this one never really caught on. Although the movie was promoted, the tracks did not achieve the level of popularity that such films require.
Wankhede described Choudhary as an outstanding television actor but said he has not yet shown the kind of charm on the big screen that attracts moviegoers. In his assessment, the music and star cast of Tum Mere Ho were not strong enough to bring audiences to theatres.
He also shared his expectations for two major upcoming films, Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana and Shah Rukh Khan’s King. According to him, both could perform well, but given the momentum so far, King may have an edge. He forecast that Ramayana could collect 110 to 115 crore rupees globally on its first day and reach around 300 crore rupees over its opening weekend. He also suggested that the controversy surrounding the film could work in its favour at the box office.
