Director and actor Vivek Agnihotri has unveiled the trailer for his new film. As with his previous works, controversy seems inevitable. Following The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files, all eyes are now on The Bengal Files. However, the film’s journey hasn’t been smooth. A screening of the film was held in Kolkata on August 16, 2025, where the trailer faced disruptions at the time of its release, causing difficulties for the makers. The trailer offers a glimpse into Bengal’s history, depicting events before independence. It addresses the Hindu-Muslim dynamic, showcasing communal violence and the sensitive conditions of Bengal during that era. The trailer is violent, portraying communal conflicts alongside the efforts of individuals working to unite people and promote peace during a challenging period. Vivek Agnihotri, upon releasing the trailer, wrote, ‘I present the trailer of The Bengal Files to you all in memory of the victims of Direct Action Day (August 16, 1946). This is an untold story of Hindu genocide, presented very candidly.’ Reactions to the trailer have started pouring in. One person wrote, ‘Being a Bengali, I appreciate Vivek Agnihotri’s courage to make this film.’ Another wrote, ‘I am from Bangladesh, thank you Vivek Agnihotri.’ Another individual from Kolkata, Bengal, said, ‘I would like to say that every person should know this untold history of Bengal.’ The film is scheduled to release in theaters on September 5, 2025.
