Vicky Kaushal, a celebrated actor in Bollywood, has garnered immense appreciation from audiences throughout his decade-long career. He has delivered several successful films, solidifying his position in the industry. However, some of his films have also faced significant setbacks at the box office. This article focuses on one such film, which had a budget of ₹45 crore but barely managed to earn ₹6 crore.
Kaushal, who initially took on minor roles in Bollywood, debuted as a lead actor in 2015 with the film ‘Masaan’. He has starred in notable films like ‘Raazi’, ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, ‘Chhava’, and ‘Sanju’. Despite these successes, he also has a record of films that were both critically and commercially unsuccessful.
The film in question, ‘The Great Indian Family,’ was released on September 22, 2023. It featured Kaushal alongside Manushi Chhillar, Saloni Khanna, Bhuvan Arora, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, and Srishti Dixit. The film was directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra.
Kaushal played the character of Ved Vyas Tripathi, also known as Billu, in the film. ‘The Great Indian Family’ faced stiff competition from Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara’s film, ‘Jawan’. While ‘Jawan’ became an all-time blockbuster, ‘The Great Indian Family’ performed poorly. Despite a production budget of ₹45 crore, the film only managed to earn ₹5.6 crore at the Indian box office.
Kaushal’s recent appearance was in the all-time blockbuster ‘Chhava.’ He is set to star in the upcoming film ‘Love & War,’ which will also feature Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, ‘Love & War’ is scheduled for release in 2026.
