The box office witnessed a major clash on August 14, 2025, with the release of ‘War 2,’ starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, and Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie.’ Both films, highly anticipated, drew large audiences and achieved impressive numbers, emerging as two of the year’s biggest releases. However, after a robust second weekend, the momentum of both films has begun to wane as they enter their crucial weekdays.
‘War 2’ opened strongly, collecting Rs 52 crore on its first day. This momentum continued on the second day, with earnings of Rs 57.85 crore. The film experienced a dip over the weekend, earning Rs 33.25 crore on the third day and Rs 32.65 crore on the fourth day. A sharp drop was seen on the fifth day, with only Rs 8.75 crore, but the film stabilized slightly on the sixth day, earning Rs 9 crore. Mid-week collections further declined, with Rs 5.75 crore on the seventh day and Rs 5 crore on the eighth day, bringing the first-week total to an impressive Rs 204.25 crore. In its second week, ‘War 2’ earned Rs 4 crore on its ninth day, an estimated Rs 6.25 crore on the tenth day, and Rs 7.25 crore on the eleventh day, demonstrating a healthy increase.
Early estimates for the twelfth day indicate earnings of approximately Rs 2.25 crore, bringing the total box office collection to Rs 224.25 crore.
‘War 2,’ a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘War,’ was released on August 14, 2025, featuring Hrithik Roshan reprising his role as Agent Kabir after a six-year hiatus. NTR Jr. joins the franchise as Agent Vikram, with Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana also playing key roles.
‘Coolie’ had a blockbuster opening, amassing Rs 65 crore on its first day. The film maintained strong momentum on the second day with Rs 54.75 crore, though a slight decrease was noted. Over the weekend, collections were Rs 39.5 crore on the third day and Rs 35.25 crore on the fourth day, resulting in a solid first four-day total. However, ‘Coolie’ saw a steep fall during the weekdays, earning Rs 12 crore on the fifth day, Rs 9.5 crore on the sixth day, Rs 7.5 crore on the seventh day, and Rs 6.15 crore on the eighth day. Despite the drops, the film concluded its first week at an impressive Rs 229.65 crore. In its second week, ‘Coolie’ added Rs 5.85 crore on the ninth day, experienced a large jump with Rs 10.5 crore on the tenth day, and Rs 11.35 crore on the eleventh day.
According to early figures, ‘Coolie’ collected Rs 3 crore on the twelfth day, bringing its 12-day total to Rs 260.35 crore. Despite the sharp weekday drops, the film has become a major commercial success.
The plot of ‘Coolie’ centers on Deva, a former gold smuggler now working as a coolie, who aims to regain his past glory by reviving his old gang with stolen technology hidden in vintage golden watches, leading to unexpected consequences. The cast includes Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat, with Aamir Khan making a cameo appearance. It is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures.
