The ancient town of Khajuraho is set to host the opening of a 25-day national countdown for International Yoga Day 2026. Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav announced that the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga will lead the initiative at the iconic Western Group of Temples. Speaking to the media, the minister emphasized the countdown’s role in mobilizing public participation through yoga sessions, awareness drives, and community events. The program will commence at 6 a.m. daily and invite practitioners from every corner of India to join in collective practice. Jadhav noted that the campaign is part of a broader 100-day effort involving 100 institutions nationwide. The choice of Khajuraho symbolizes the fusion of cultural legacy and contemporary wellness. The minister highlighted how yoga has evolved into a global health movement since the United Nations adopted International Yoga Day in 2014. He also mentioned ongoing free training programs that have already registered over two lakh yoga enthusiasts. The countdown will serve as a milestone in preparing for the 12th International Yoga Day. Officials expect enthusiastic participation from students, officials, and wellness advocates alike.
