Digital Health IDs Connect Over 93 Crore Citizens to ABHA Platform

Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, more than 93 crore unique Digital Health IDs – known as ABHA – have been issued, tying together a staggering 104 crore health records. The Ministry’s fact sheet highlights that this extensive linkage forms the backbone of India’s interoperable health ecosystem.

The ABHA ID acts as a personal health identifier, permitting patients to grant permission for their records to be shared with hospitals, laboratories, insurers and national health initiatives. This consent‑based model ensures data privacy while enabling seamless access to medical histories.

Key benefits of the system include reduced paperwork, faster OPD check‑ins, lower waiting periods for treatment, and enhanced coordination among stakeholders such as clinicians, hospitals, insurance firms and government programs.

Complementary to the ABHA infrastructure, the newly launched Arogya Setu 2.0 application empowers users to manage their digital health records, arrange tele‑consultations, book hospital slots, view insurance entitlements, locate health facilities nearby and monitor health parameters via connected wearables.
