ICMR’s Digital Decision System Honoured for Innovative Use of AI
The Indian Council of Medical Research’s mental‑health project ICMR‑Minds secured the Gold Medal at the 2026 National e‑Governance Awards, presented by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in Jaipur. The accolade acknowledges the system’s pioneering application of artificial intelligence to deliver citizen‑focused health services.
Central to the solution is a Clinical Decision Support System that guides frontline health personnel through a standardized workflow for mental‑health screening, assessment, treatment planning and follow‑up. The decision engine draws on a robust evidence base and operates both online and offline, supporting workers in remote areas.
Features such as role‑specific clinical pathways, multilingual support, gamified engagement, and a real‑time monitoring dashboard empower health teams and administrators alike. The Continuity‑of‑Care framework links primary care with specialist referral networks, ensuring that patients receive seamless treatment while alleviating the burden on tertiary hospitals.
The initiative is being rolled out in seven states through collaborations with premier institutions including AIIMS Guwahati, Gujarat Institute of Mental Health, AIIMS New Delhi, St John’s Medical College, AIIMS Bhopal, AIIMS Bhubaneswar and PGIMER Chandigarh. Officials underscored the project’s potential to provide affordable, uniform, and high‑quality mental‑health care across the country.
