Unauthorized Delivery Leads to Fatality; Officials Order FIR and Shutdown

A tragic delivery at Alwar’s private Nishu Hospital has prompted the Rajasthan health department to revoke the institution’s licence and file a police complaint.

Investigators uncovered that a nursing staff member, Rafikhan Bano, conducted the birth without the supervision of a certified doctor, resulting in the death of the mother, Anjum Khan. The incident, reported on August 4, triggered an emergency review by senior health officials.

Gayatri Rathore, senior secretary of the medical and health department, ordered an FIR against the hospital and demanded that the Medical Council of India take disciplinary action against the owner, Bhavesh Kumar Sharma. A separate recommendation was sent to the Nursing Council concerning the nurse’s conduct.

During a video‑conference meeting focused on maternal and newborn health, Rathore instructed all relevant officers—principal medical officers, chief medical and health officers, and medical college representatives—to keep precise, up‑to‑date records of pregnant women and to prioritize high‑risk cases.

The review also covered the state of biomedical equipment in government hospitals, urging rapid repair of reusable devices and accurate reporting of non‑functional equipment on the e‑equipment portal to enhance patient care efficiency.
