A 17-year-old girl reportedly died by suicide on Thursday in the Aarey area of Goregaon East, Mumbai, after jumping from the 23rd floor of the Oberoi Square complex. Initial investigations by the Aarey police revealed no suicide note at the scene, and an accidental death report has been filed. This tragic incident is the fourth suicide within the same building complex in the last six months.
Authorities stated that the young girl was undergoing treatment for depression. She resided on the 23rd floor of the Oberoi building, C Wing, and was a Class 11 student. Her father worked in the construction industry.
On Thursday afternoon, the girl was studying in her bedroom while her mother and grandparents were at home. Her father was away at work. At around 3:30 p.m., she is alleged to have jumped from her bedroom window. Family members disclosed that she had been battling depression for several years and was receiving treatment at Ambani Hospital.
The Oberoi complex has gained notoriety due to the alarming number of suicides among its residents. In the past six months, four such cases have been reported from different buildings within the complex.
Last month, 22-year-old Anant Dwivedi reportedly died by suicide after jumping from the 45th floor of the Oberoi E-Square building. On May 28, 2025, another 17-year-old schoolgirl also reportedly jumped to her death from the 45th floor of the same complex.
