In a significant ruling, the National Investigating Agency (NIA) court delivered its verdict on July 31, 2025, in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, concluding a 17-year legal battle. The court acquitted all defendants, including Sadhvi Pragya Singh and Lt. Col. Purohit, of all charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Arms Act, and other related charges. The court determined that while a blast did occur in Malegaon, the prosecution failed to establish a link between the bomb and the motorcycle. It also noted discrepancies in medical certificates, stating the number of injured as 95 instead of 101. Families of the six victims will receive Rs 2 lakh each, and the injured will be compensated with Rs 50,000. Advocate Shahid Nadeem, representing the victims’ families, has indicated plans to challenge the acquittal in the High Court.
