Abohar Family Demands CBI Probe; Jakhar Stages Protest at Assembly

Chandigarh, October 23: A protest was held at the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Friday as BJP leader Sunil Jakhar arrived with the family of a man who was killed in Abohar. The protest targeted the state's Aam Aadmi Party government over the handling of the case.

In his remarks, Jakhar said he had come to the assembly to serve the people and speak for them, not to make politics a profession. He said he would not come forward to defend people who had come from humble origins but now travel in costly cars. He reaffirmed that he would keep raising the concerns of ordinary citizens. He further stated that around 115 MLAs had passed by the victim's family at this location.

Jakhar issued a warning that even if the assembly session concluded, he would sit in protest outside the residence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He said he would also go to Delhi for this cause.

Speaking to journalists, he made a plea. He said the state government had no authority to order a CBI investigation or register an FIR in any matter under its purview. Still, he requested that officials at least go to the victim's family and share their pain. He called for a display of sensitivity and restraint so that the assembly's time would not be lost to needless controversy.

According to reports, the case is from Sant Nagar in Abohar. Ajay Kumar was shot in the stomach outside the Valmiki temple there and was gravely wounded. He was admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana, where he died during treatment.

The family has been protesting continuously, seeking a CBI probe, the arrest of all the accused, and a fair investigation into the matter.
