The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court, seeking the suspension of the ‘Umeed’ portal until the hearing of petitions challenging the Waqf Act 2025 is completed. The Board has requested the court to either halt the portal or direct the central government to withdraw its notification. The Board has labeled this action as unlawful and contempt of court. Dr. SQR Ilyas, the national spokesperson of the Board, stated that despite repeated appeals, the government launched the Umeed portal on June 6th and made the registration of Waqf properties mandatory. He added that this exerts illegal pressure on mutawallis (caretakers) and impacts the reliefs sought in the Supreme Court.
