The mortal remains of Samajwadi Party leader Prateek Yadav will be consigned to the holy waters of the Ganga at Haridwar this Saturday. Leaving Lucknow at dawn, the grieving family flew to Dehradun before continuing by road to the Choudary Charan Singh VVIP Ghat. The ceremony will be solemnized under the guidance of Juna Akhara’s Acharya Mahamandleshwar Swami Avdheshanand Giri. Aparna Yadav, wife of the deceased, reached the airport along with daughters Prathama and Padmaja, her father Arvind Singh Bisht and brother Aman Bisht. Aditya Yadav carried the urn as the family prepared to board the aircraft. After landing at Jolly Grant airport, the convoy will head straight to Haridwar. Although Akhilesh Yadav’s participation is still uncertain, Aparna has urged supporters to assemble at the ghat and lend strength to the bereaved family. Prateek, 38, breathed his last in Lucknow on May 13. The following day his cremation took place at Bhainsakund Ghat, where his father-in-law performed the last rites. Akhilesh Yadav paid his respects by placing wood on the pyre, while his two nieces bid their father goodbye. Prateek was the son of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and Smt. Sadhana Gupta. His wife Aparna holds the post of Vice-Chairperson in the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission.
