Following the postponement of his Kisan Mahapanchayat in Chotila due to heavy rainfall, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal addressed a press conference in Ahmedabad, sharply criticizing the Modi government. He stated that the central government’s decision to eliminate the 11% import duty on American cotton has made it significantly cheaper, by ₹15–20 per kg, compared to Indian cotton. Kejriwal warned that this move will force Indian farmers to sell their crop at prices lower than ₹900 per 20 kgs, potentially driving them to suicide. He further alleged that Prime Minister Modi is prioritizing the interests of Adani and appeasing Trump, and demanded the immediate reinstatement of the 11% duty, a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2100 per 20 kg for cotton, and subsidies for seeds and fertilizers.
