Ashok Gahlot Presses for Accountability After Rahul Gandhi’s Election Probe Remarks

Ashok Gahlot, the ex‑chief minister of Rajasthan, addressed the media in Jaipur on September 24, demanding that the Election Commission and chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma confront the concerns raised by Rahul Gandhi regarding the Supreme Court‑mandated Special Investigation Report on the state’s recent polls. Gahlot highlighted that Gandhi has long warned about possible vote tampering and that the SIT’s findings have been repeatedly challenged by two commission members, who lodged objections fourteen times yet allowed the process to continue. He called for immediate disciplinary measures against Chief Election Officer Gyanesh Kumar, including dismissal or resignation, stating that the alleged manipulation threatens the very core of India’s democratic institutions. Gahlot also scrutinized Sharma’s claim of no police involvement, pointing to reports of coercion, legal threats, and alleged harassment of candidates, especially in the Bharatpur district where a candidate withdrew after intimidation, benefitting the BJP. He concluded that the electorate will hold the authorities accountable when the facts become clear.
