Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the arrest of 16 individuals for alleged illegal cattle slaughter during Eid-ul-Adha. Authorities recovered cattle parts from various locations across Assam. Five illegal slaughtering sites were identified in the Barak Valley districts of Cachar and Karimganj. Sarma emphasized the importance of upholding both religious freedom and public order, highlighting that the government would take strict action against all violators, regardless of their background. The Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021, restricts the slaughter, sale, or consumption of cattle in specific areas. Protests and clashes occurred in Hojai, with Hindu and Muslim communities taking to the streets, leading to road blockades and confrontations with the police. Authorities are investigating reports of meat being thrown at premises in Hojai and near Cotton University.
