Bakra Eid Message: Give Up Desires, Serve Nation

Dehradun, May 28: Uttarakhand Waqf Board Chairman Shadab Shams has called on Muslims and all citizens to transform the spirit of Eid-ul-Adha into a lifelong practice of sacrifice for humanity and the country. In an interview with IANS he said the festival must not be reduced to slaughtering animals but should ignite a readiness to surrender personal comforts whenever society or the nation demands it. “Whenever a friend needs money that we possess, we should offer it,” he said. “If Mother India needs our blood, we must cultivate the courage to lay down our own lives and those of our children.” He added that only when such a sentiment takes root will India remain strong and united. Echoing similar thoughts in Chandigarh, Mufti Sameer Khan reminded devotees of Prophet Ibrahim’s ultimate test of faith. He stressed that the day is not merely about animal sacrifice but about conquering one’s own desires and ego. Khan advised that the ritual be conducted discreetly and respectfully so that it does not disturb people of other faiths living in the same neighbourhood.
