Bay of Bengal Low-Pressure System Triggers Flood‑Like Conditions in Multiple States

A low‑pressure area forming over the north‑west Bay of Bengal and the adjacent Odisha‑West Bengal coastline is becoming increasingly organised. The system is expected to drift west‑northwest over the next three days, spreading widespread rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds from eastern to central and northern India. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely over Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya and the entire northeastern belt. The IMD has also placed Odisha districts such as Kandhamal, Boudh and Angul under a red alert due to rising river levels. Maharashtra and Gujarat continue to wrestle with flood‑like situations, while Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu report swelling rivers after persistent downpours. Residents are cautioned against standing in open areas during lightning storms.
