In anticipation of the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar later this year, the Election Commission has decided to upload the 2003 voter list on its website. This move is part of an intensive revision of the voter rolls. The uploaded list will allow approximately 49.6 million voters to access and attach relevant portions of the list to their nomination forms for the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. According to the Election Commission’s directives, voters who were part of the 2003 special comprehensive revision list will not need to submit additional documents to prove their birth date or place of birth, provided they attach the relevant portion of the revised voter list. However, the remaining 30 million voters will need to provide one of 11 listed documents to verify their birth details. The aim of this revision is to ensure no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible voter is included. The Chief Election Officer, Gyanesh Kumar, emphasized this goal, with each Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) being responsible for ensuring a thorough revision within their respective constituencies. Bihar currently has over 78.9 million voters across 243 assembly seats, with the last intensive revision conducted in 2003.
