Bihar: Scorpio Lift Assault on Sheikhpura Girl, SIT Arrests Suspect

A sensational crime in Bihar's Sheikhpura district has sparked fresh concern over the security of women and minor girls. A schoolgirl who had attended coaching classes was allegedly assaulted in a Scorpio vehicle after accepting a lift that was never meant to take her home. The accused was arrested within 12 hours of the crime.

The incident unfolded after coaching classes ended on Friday evening at the RD College crossing in Sheikhpura city. The minor was waiting for a toto when a Scorpio pulled up. The driver, later identified as Amrit Kumar alias Amit Kumar of Jakhraj Sthan, asked for directions to Lakhisarai. Since that road ran close to the girl's home, he offered her a lift.

She refused at first. The accused then pretended to dial her family on his phone, though the call did not connect. Assuring her of a safe journey, he got her to board the vehicle.

Instead of driving her home, he moved the Scorpio towards the isolated Madari Road beyond Bhadaus. Police say the sexual assault took place inside the moving vehicle. Afterwards he left her near the Jharkhand Mandir crossing in Pachna village and fled.

The girl reached home late at night and broke down while narrating the ordeal. Her family immediately went to the Mahila Police Station, where an FIR was registered.

Police formed a Special Investigation Team, which carried out raids at likely hideouts. Acting on technical inputs, the team arrested the accused from Lakhisarai and seized the vehicle.

SDPO Dr. Rakesh Kumar held a press conference to explain the case. He said the investigation was being completed rapidly and a chargesheet would be filed in court within 15 days. Police, he said, would push for a speedy trial so that the accused receives the strictest punishment.
