Bihar is set to make history in the sports world by hosting the Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens Championship-2025 in Rajgir. The event, starting Friday, will see the best eight men’s and eight women’s teams from across Asia compete for the Asian title. A total of 192 male and female players from nine countries, along with 32 coaches and support staff, and 50 technical officials, will participate in the two-day championship, which includes 40 matches. The championship will take place from August 9th to 10th. The opening ceremony will be attended by Bihar’s Sports Minister and the Rural Development Minister. Teams from China, Hong Kong, UAE, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and host nation India will compete in the men’s category. The women’s category will see teams from China, Hong Kong, UAE, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and India. The Rajgir International Sports Complex is gaining international attention, as it will also host the Hero Cup Asian Hockey Championship later in August. The event is particularly special for Bihar as it features four women players and two men players from the state in the Indian Under-20 teams. Foreign teams have already started arriving, with the Chinese teams already in Rajgir. All teams are being welcomed at Patna’s Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport and provided high-level security in Rajgir. Rugby India’s President Rahul Bose highlighted the excellent preparation of both Indian teams, which included a month-long training camp in Kolkata. World-class coaches, Francisco Hernandez of Spain for the men’s team and Kiano Fourie of South Africa for the women’s team, have been appointed.
