Following the tragic death of a 6-year-old student in Jehanabad, Bihar on Thursday, August 28, 2025, the transport department has initiated strict action. The department seized the bus involved in the accident and filed a case against the owner and driver under the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act. Investigations revealed the vehicle did not meet safety standards.
The fitness certificate for the bus had expired in February 2024, yet it continued to operate. Furthermore, the driver did not possess a valid driving license, and the vehicle lacked necessary documentation such as insurance and a pollution certificate. The bus was operating in a completely illegal and unsafe manner.
The driver was also found to be operating the vehicle in a reckless manner. Consequently, the transport department has imposed a fine on the driver and the bus owner, and they will face stringent action under the MV Act. The department has emphasized that there will be no compromise on child safety.
The District Transport Officer and Motor Vehicle Inspector of Jehanabad have been directed to take stern action against school administrations, vehicle owners, drivers, and other responsible parties under the Motor Vehicles Act and other relevant legal provisions. The department maintains that the safety of children is paramount and that no negligence will be tolerated in this matter.
Following the incident, the transport department has ordered inspections of all private schools in the district to ensure they adhere to government-mandated safety standards. The fitness, insurance, pollution certificates, and permits of each school vehicle will be checked. Immediate action will be taken against vehicles found lacking in these areas.
