The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) data for Bihar, revealing a significant decrease in the number of voters across the state’s 38 districts. According to the data, 22.34 lakh voters have been reported as deceased. Furthermore, 36.28 lakh voters have either permanently relocated or cannot be located, and 7.01 lakh voters are enrolled in multiple locations. Consequently, the total number of voters in the state has decreased from 78,969,844 to 72,405,756.
The ECI has allotted a month for filing claims and objections regarding the voter list. The final voter list is scheduled to be released on September 1st. Several districts, including Patna, have witnessed a reduction of 2 to 3 lakh voters during this process. Smaller districts have seen a decrease ranging from 30,000 to 1 lakh. The draft voter list incorporates data from 90,817 polling booths across all 243 constituencies in Bihar.
West Champaran district experienced a decrease of 1,91,376 voters. The district’s total number of voters has decreased from 27,60,990 to 25,69,614. Similarly, East Champaran district saw a reduction of 3,15,730 voters, with the total number decreasing from 36,88,485 to 33,73,055.
In Purnia, the total number of voters has decreased by 2,73,620, from 22,68,431 to 19,95,811. Vaishali district also witnessed a reduction of 2,25,953 voters, with the count dropping from 26,74,245 to 24,48,292. Samastipur district experienced a decrease of 2,84,235 voters, with the total number falling from 31,45,370 to 28,61,135.
Patna district, the state’s capital, saw a decrease of approximately 3,95,000 voters, with the total number decreasing from 50,74,694 to 46,15,694. Lakhisarai district experienced a reduction of 46,824 voters, with the total number of voters now at 7,35,600. Saran district witnessed a reduction of 2,73,223 voters, with the count decreasing from 31,34,108 to 28,60,885.
