The Congress party has appointed 58 observers in preparation for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for this year. The appointments, approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, include prominent figures like Wing Commander Anuma Acharya (Retired), Ali Mehdi, Ashok Chandna, Manoj Yadav, Nadeem Javed, Shoaib Khan, Akhilesh Yadav, and Virendra Yadav. The move signals the party’s intent to vigorously contest the elections, aiming to counter the ruling coalition.
The previous Assembly elections saw the RJD, the largest constituent of the ‘Mahagathbandhan,’ contest 144 seats and win 75. With a total of 243 seats in the Bihar Assembly, the upcoming elections are critical for all parties involved.
In the last election, the Congress contested 70 seats but secured only 19. Another ally, the CPI (ML) Liberation, contested 19 seats and won 12. The Assembly elections are anticipated to be held in October-November.
