Congress MPs slam UCC push as vote‑bank politics, cite inflation, unemployment

Congress representatives challenged the government’s focus on the Uniform Civil Code, labeling it a distraction from pressing economic concerns. MP Imran Masood argued that the UCC does not address rising food prices, joblessness, or the cost of living, and merely serves political calculations. Another Congress voice, Rashid Alvi, questioned whether the code could improve the country’s financial health, reduce unemployment, or lower fuel prices.

Alvi further accused the BJP of targeting Muslim communities through measures like triple divorce provisions, mosque‑mandir disputes and the UCC itself. He warned that such agenda‑driven legislation could erode social harmony and hamper development, urging the government to prioritize real‑world problems over symbolic reforms.
