Crude Oil Surges to $108, Yet Indian Pump Prices Stay Flat on September 15
The latest Houthi offensive against Saudi oil infrastructure has sent global crude prices soaring, with benchmarks touching $108 a barrel on Monday. The escalation adds fresh volatility to the already turbulent West Asian energy market.
Amid the price turbulence, Indian oil marketing corporations issued their September 15 price update, confirming that retail petrol and diesel rates have not changed for the week. The unchanged figures apply to major urban centers including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and others.
Analysts note that the Indian pricing formula incorporates a lag, allowing companies to evaluate crude movements over a longer horizon before adjusting retail tariffs. The current rate freeze therefore reflects a strategic decision to shield consumers from immediate price shocks while the market digests the recent developments.
Stakeholders caution that continued pressure on crude supplies could eventually filter through to the domestic market, but at present, Indian motorists enjoy price stability despite a sudden jump in global oil costs.
