Delhi to Feel Thunderstorms While Northeast Braces for Flood‑Like Rains

The IMD’s Sunday forecast shows Delhi and the surrounding NCR experiencing thunderstorms with occasional heavy downpours. The rain is expected to bring a brief respite from the ongoing heat wave, although temperatures may rise again by 2‑3°C in the following days, keeping humidity levels high.

Meanwhile, the entire northeast is under a heavy to very heavy rain alert. Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are all forecast to receive intense rainfall, raising the risk of landslides and road disruptions in the hilly terrain.

Eastern states such as Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal are also on alert. Some districts in Bihar could see very heavy rain, leading to water‑logged streets and swelling rivers. Jharkhand and West Bengal may face thunderstorms with strong winds.

Uttar Pradesh’s eastern districts, including Gorakhpur and Varanasi, are expected to receive heavy rain, whereas the western side will see light to moderate showers. Uttarakhand’s pilgrimage districts have been issued a heavy rain warning, prompting officials to advise travelers to stay updated.

Across western and southern India, the monsoon remains active. Konkan, Goa, coastal Karnataka, Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu will continue to experience steady rain, while Gujarat and central Maharashtra see moderate showers. Fishermen have been warned of gusty winds up to 55 km/h over the Arabian Sea.
