Domestic Petrol and Diesel Rates on August 31: No Change Despite US‑Iran Conflict

On August 31, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas released a price bulletin confirming that petrol and diesel rates across the country have not been altered. The decision applies to all major metros, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Noida and Lucknow.

The announcement follows a series of aggressive moves by Iran, which struck two U.S. military facilities in Jordan. The episode has revived concerns of a broader U.S.-Iran war, pushing crude oil prices upward on the world stage.

Nevertheless, India's fuel pricing mechanism has absorbed the shock without passing on higher costs to consumers. This stability is largely credited to accumulated subsidies and the government's strategic price caps.
