Double Life Exposed: Munger Arms Smuggler Caught in Bhagalpur
Teaching children during the day and dealing in illegal weapons at night, a Munger man allegedly lived a double life that went unnoticed for years. Sita Kumar Ram, described by police as a dangerous arms smuggler, has been arrested in Bhagalpur by the Bengal STF.
To the people around him, Sita Kumar Ram was a private tutor in Bhikhanpur, a quiet and unremarkable figure. Investigators, however, say he was the mastermind behind an interstate weapons racket and used his tutoring work as a convenient cover.
The arrest was made from a secret hideout in Bhikhanpur, within the Ishakchak police station area of Bhagalpur. Sub-Inspector Nadeem Ahmed of the Bengal STF led the operation, supported by local police.
The accused was produced before the CJM court in Bhagalpur, where Raj Kapoor presides. The STF secured a 48-hour transit remand and has since taken him to Bengal, where he will be presented before the Barasat (North) court in North 24 Parganas.
An arrest warrant had already been issued against him in Case No. 552/2024 registered at Deganga police station. He was wanted under non-bailable provisions in that case.
The investigation that led to his arrest began on September 15, 2024, when the Bengal STF caught Malda resident Abdul Hannan with sophisticated firearms. Under interrogation, Hannan confessed that every batch of weapons from Munger was delivered in Bhagalpur by Sita Kumar Ram.
The operation was built on secrecy. Sita avoided regular phone calls with smugglers in Bengal and used WhatsApp calls and secret codes instead. After a delivery date was set, he gathered automatic pistols, carbines and cartridges in Munger, brought them to Bhagalpur and handed them to Hannan's gang, from where they were supplied across Bengal.
The STF kept his hideout under watch after the warrant was issued and finally caught him in Bhagalpur through a planned operation.
