Escaped Prisoner Triggers Security Probe After Breaking Out of Samastipur Court

The Samastipur Behavioural Court in Bihar witnessed a rare security breach on Monday when a detainee escaped custody during a POCSO hearing. The prisoner, Roshan Kumar alias Sajan, a resident of Nazirpur in the Ujiyarpur jurisdiction, had been serving a term in Mandal Jail for about a year.

Accompanied by police officers, he arrived at the court for his scheduled appearance. While the officials were in the process of removing his handcuffs, the accused seized the opportunity, broke free, and vanished, causing immediate alarm inside the courtroom.

Police officials quickly cordoned off the court premises and surrounding streets, initiating a comprehensive search operation. The lack of any immediate sighting forced investigators to turn to the court's CCTV footage and cellular tower data to track his movements.

A special task team, constituted under the direction of Samastipur DSP Sanjay Kumar Pandey and the superintendent of police, has intensified its efforts, conducting raids across the district and analysing digital evidence to locate the runaway.

This incident adds to a series of similar escapes from the Samastipur court, prompting lawmakers and security experts to call for a review of custodial procedures and enhanced surveillance within the judicial environment.
