Fake Stock Investments and Romance Lead to ₹1.5 Cr Fraud in Bihar

A ₹1.5 crore defrauding incident has come to light in Bihar’s Darbhanga district, where a woman allegedly exploited an engineer’s trust through a fabricated online romance and a phantom stock market portfolio. The scheme unfolded over a three-month period, beginning with a casual Instagram connection that rapidly evolved into claims of romantic love and marriage proposals. Leveraging this emotional attachment, the suspect convinced the victim to route his savings into an alleged trading venture.

Deepak Kumar, a resident of Nawada village, transferred his accumulated wealth into thirty different bank accounts at her behest. Suspicious red flags emerged early on, as the woman consistently declined video communication, limiting all conversations to voice calls. The fraud’s true nature was exposed when the victim sought to liquidate his assets for personal expenses.

The suspect first masked the delay by citing technical maintenance work, promising a payout within seventy-two hours. After the funds remained absent, she demanded a hefty twenty-five percent upfront fee to unlock his principal investment. The unreasonable requirement served as the final confirmation of the scam.

Distraught but decisive, the engineer filed a detailed written complaint with the Bahadha police, triggering a formal inquiry into the multi-account financial trail.
