GPS Tracker Turned the Tide in Muzaffarpur Deep-Fake Scam

A modest GPS tracker became the pivotal element that dismantled a ruthless AI-powered extortion operation in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The racket, run by a group of four youths, used deep-fake technology to fabricate explicit videos of a Patna hotelier and demanded a total of 97 lakh rupees.

After paying three installments, the victim concealed the tracker inside a bundle of bank-notes and handed over the final 20 lakh rupees on 15 July. The device instantly transmitted its location to the Special Investigation Unit. Acting on the live feed, City SP Mohibullah Ansari led a swift raid on the residence of the chief accused, Abhishek Kumar, in Ahiyapur. Police recovered the cash-filled bag containing the tracker and seized 20 lakh rupees in hard cash. The recovered amount was promptly reported to the Income Tax Department, and two accomplices were taken into custody while the mastermind managed to flee.
