India's Sugar Retail Prices Reach Rs 63/kg, No Stock Shortage Reported

Official statistics released on Monday show the average all‑India retail price of sugar at Rs 63.05 per kilogram, up from Rs 48.73 a month earlier – an increase of nearly 29 percent. The maximum retail price recorded in the survey was Rs 75 per kilogram, while the model price stood at Rs 65. Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra highlighted that ex‑mill prices jumped from Rs 47‑Rs 48 to Rs 62 per kilogram within a ten‑day window, calling the surge "unjustified". Despite the price hike, the government affirmed that there is no shortage of sugar stocks across the country.
