A major weather transition is underway as a potent Western Disturbance sweeps across India, bringing an end to the intense heatwave conditions in the northern plains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive bulletin detailing rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorm warnings for over a dozen states. Delhi-NCR, which saw its first signs of relief earlier this week, is expected to see cloudy skies and intermittent rain for the next two days. The minimum temperature in the capital has hovered around 25 degrees Celsius, providing cooler mornings and evenings for residents. The situation in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar appears more volatile. Meteorologists have predicted severe thunderstorms with wind speeds potentially touching the 100 kmph mark in isolated pockets. This turbulence is expected to be accompanied by hailstorms, which could pose a risk to standing crops and temporary structures. In Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, districts such as Indore, Bhopal, Kota, and Jhalawar are also under a weather watch, with rain and winds of up to 50 kmph forecast for the coming 24 hours. While the plains grapple with storms, the Himalayan states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are looking at a heavy downpour. A high alert has been sounded for 10 districts in Himachal, where lightning and thunderstorms are expected to lower the mercury significantly. In Uttarakhand, districts like Dehradun and Chamoli are prepared for heavy rain and potential hailstorms. As the monsoon progresses towards the mainland, Kerala and Tamil Nadu continue to witness steady rainfall, signaling an early onset of the rainy season in those regions.
