Hundreds of Students Shocked as Ragging Turns Violent at Jawahar Navodaya

A shocking wave of violence hit the residential campus of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Samastipur on Friday night. Senior pupils from class 8 allegedly forced thirty-five seventh-grade students into their dormitories and beat them with belts, leaving many injured. The incident is said to have begun around 11 p.m., after the house-father completed his nightly rounds. Victims allege that some juniors were stripped, made to sit on a bucket, and then repeatedly struck with belts. If a student fainted, a peer would pour water on the victim to revive them before the beating continued.
