A political controversy is brewing in Bihar regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav have been accusing the NDA government of manipulating voter lists to disenfranchise people. Both leaders are currently on a voter rights campaign in Bihar, during which they have been heavily criticizing the central government and the Election Commission.
BJP National President JP Nadda shared a video, sarcastically targeting Rahul Gandhi. The caption read, “I am still standing where my lie was caught, the truth came out, and I made a fool of myself… I am still standing there.” The video shared by Nadda features the same woman who had complained to Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav about her family’s six members allegedly being removed from the voter list; however, the truth has now been revealed in the video.
During the voter rights campaign, a woman named Ranju Devi met with Rahul Gandhi and complained about her vote being removed. The truth about the woman has now come to light, with her complaint proving to be false. Investigations revealed that Ranju Devi and her family’s names are present in the voter list, and no family member’s name has been removed.
Ranju Devi, a resident of Rohtas district, explained that her ward secretary had told her that her and her family’s names were not on the voter list. The secretary also allegedly told her to meet Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav during their visit to Bihar and to get her name added. Following this, she met with the Congress leader and complained about her name being removed from the voter list.
Ranju Devi clarified that when she checked the voter list herself, her and her family’s names were present. She stated that she went to complain to Rahul Gandhi at the behest of the ward secretary. She mentioned that they are villagers who follow what they are told. She said that the secretary had instructed her to tell Rahul Gandhi that the names of six members of her family were missing from the list, although they were present in the old list. In the video, Rahul Gandhi asks Ranju Devi if she has ever voted before, to which she replies in the affirmative. Rahul then expresses surprise, stating that there’s no point in her name being removed.
A social media user commented that Rahul Gandhi’s vote theft PR is turning into a disaster. First, the Election Commission gave him a 7-day ultimatum with all the facts, and now people are exposing him from all sides. The user added that it was a scripted PR stunt.
