Love Affair Sparks Murder in Banrahan, Gopalganj District

Banrahan village of Bihar's Gopalganj district became the centre of a tragic murder linked to an inter‑family love affair. On Sunday night, 85‑year‑old matriarch Koilasi Khatun was fatally stabbed by her grandson, 21‑year‑old Saheb Hussain.

Investigators have learned that Hussain was in a relationship with his maternal uncle’s daughter, a bond that several relatives, including the victim, openly condemned. The conflict reached its climax after dinner when Hussain, sharing a bedroom with his grandmother and a cousin, allegedly rose at around 2 a.m. and launched an unprovoked knife attack.

The cousin, hearing the violent episode, screamed and fled the room, prompting villagers to converge on the house. Despite their swift arrival, the grandmother had already died from multiple head wounds. Police arrested Hussain promptly and are exploring the role of the family’s disapproval in the killing.

A forensic science laboratory team later examined the crime scene, seizing the murder weapon and gathering further forensic material. The case remains under investigation, with authorities emphasizing both the romantic dispute and familial opposition as potential factors.
