Mahanand Singh, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Arwal, is facing the consequences of a 24-year-old case. On Monday, August 4th, the Civil Court in Jehanabad, Bihar, ordered Singh to be placed in judicial custody. Following his declaration as a fugitive in the old case, the current MLA’s position is also under threat. During the court appearance, SDJM Manish Kumar ordered him to be sent to the Mandal Kara Kako. The action stems from a criminal case filed in 2001. Singh, a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), was taken to Jehanabad Sadar Hospital for a COVID-19 test on Monday before being placed in judicial custody after completing legal procedures. Supporters of the MLA expressed their anger. Following the order, chaos erupted in the court premises. Police immediately took the MLA into custody, adhering to the court’s orders. Singh’s supporters are upset by the incarceration. Some supporters have called the action a political conspiracy.
