Muzaffarpur Tragedy: Amarjeet Ram Found Hanging, Wife Missing

What started as an online romance in Muzaffarpur has ended in tragedy. Amarjeet Ram, a 22-year-old from Chhegan Neura village in Meenapur area, was found hanging in his home, leaving his family and neighbours in shock.

The death was reported from Ward No. 10 of Chhegan Neura under Alineura panchayat. On Saturday, relatives discovered Amarjeet's body hanging from a saree in his room. Their cries drew others to the house, and the village has been gripped by sorrow ever since.

Meenapur police and an FSL team were soon on the spot, where they collected essential evidence. The body was subsequently dispatched for postmortem.

Love, marriage and a legal battle

According to the deceased's cousin, Amarjeet met Surabhi Patel from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Instagram while watching reels and exchanging messages. Their friendship grew into love, and eventually they married without the consent of their families.

The marriage soon led to legal trouble. The young woman's father registered a kidnapping and marriage case against Amarjeet in Jaunpur. During the case, it was established that the woman was a minor. Based on a juvenile court order, Amarjeet had to serve nearly two years in jail. He returned home from prison about three months ago.

Search at the railway station

Relatives say the couple stayed in touch by phone even after his release. On Wednesday, the young woman called and said she had left home and reached Muzaffarpur railway station. Amarjeet travelled to the station, searched extensively in and around the area, but failed to find her. His family says he was under heavy mental strain after that day.

Police investigation

The body has been sent for postmortem, and police have opened an investigation. Every aspect of the matter is being examined, including the reasons behind the suicide and the circumstances of the wife's disappearance. Police say that the true circumstances will be clarified only after the investigation is complete.
