Protests in Nepal have escalated, with the movement among young people turning increasingly volatile. Despite restrictions on internet media, the protests show no signs of abating. Amidst the unrest in Nepal, the Indian state of Bihar is on high alert. Security agencies and police are on alert in the six districts of Bihar that border Nepal.
The international border of the six districts of Bihar bordering Nepal—West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, and Kishanganj—has been sealed. This action was taken on the instructions of the Bihar Police Headquarters. The movement of tourists has been completely restricted. Local residents are also being thoroughly investigated, and they are being allowed to cross the border only after scrutiny.
Patrolling is being conducted around border posts and villages.
The Border Security Force (BSF), Intelligence Bureau (IB), other security agencies, and intelligence units have been put on alert, as per instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The police headquarters has alerted the district magistrates and superintendents of police of the border districts. They have been instructed to coordinate with neighboring districts. Patrols by the police and SSB are underway around border posts and villages.
Instructions have been issued to police and SSB personnel.
Intelligence units are closely monitoring the events unfolding in Nepal near the border area. Police and SSB personnel have been ordered to remain vigilant to deal with any untoward situation. The control room of the police headquarters is continuously taking reports from the superintendents of police of the border districts. According to police officials, any Indian citizens stuck in the Nepal border area will be evacuated.
ADG (Law and Order) Pankaj Kumar Darad stated that the international border has been sealed until the situation in Nepal returns to normal. The entry and exit of tourists has been completely banned.
