The Odisha government will appoint ‘Sishu Sebikas’ (childcare assistants) in Sishu Vatikas, according to an official release. This initiative aims to support teachers in managing young children more effectively, allowing them to concentrate on academic activities. Sishu Vatikas, established under the National Education Policy, cater to children aged 5-6 years in government primary schools. The number of Sishu Sebikas assigned to each Sishu Vatika will be based on the number of enrolled children. Their salaries will be equivalent to those of midday meal cooks and will be funded under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi expressed confidence in the program’s ability to improve the quality of preschool education.
