Marriage is considered a sacred bond, but for some, it’s treated lightly. A man from Patna, Bihar, married eight times. The revelation came to light when he physically assaulted his eighth wife. Had it not been for the violence, she might never have known about his previous seven marriages.
The incident occurred in Anisabad, near Patna. A female journalist married Rakesh Kumar, a shopkeeper, in December 2024. However, Rakesh began abusing her shortly after the wedding. The woman raised the issue in a local panchayat. It was then discovered that Rakesh had been married seven times before. The wife filed a complaint at the police station, alleging that the police did not take the matter seriously and failed to act.
The victim then sought help from the Women’s Commission. When her husband failed to appear for a hearing there, a letter was written to the SP (Superintendent of Police). A request was made to investigate the case through the concerned police station. The victim stated that she married Rakesh Kumar from Mohania, Kaimur, on December 14, 2024. She moved into his home on December 15th.
**Assault Begins Immediately**
The woman alleged that she was assaulted from the second day of her stay. On January 12, 2024, an attempt was made to set her on fire. A village panchayat was convened, and the villagers revealed Rakesh’s seven prior marriages.
**Case Registered in Mohania Police Station**
The victim stated that after learning about her husband’s seven marriages, she filed a case in Mohania police station, but no action was taken. She has now approached the Bihar State Women’s Commission for justice. The victim has a journalism background. Apsara, the chairperson of the Bihar State Women’s Commission, stated that Rakesh Kumar was called to the commission twice, but he did not appear. The commission set a hearing date for July 14, but he was absent. Another hearing was scheduled for August 4, but he failed to attend. The Women’s Commission has now written to the Kaimur SP. The next steps in the case are pending.
