The crash was reported at around 5:40 am near Majhanpura turn in the Pipalawan police station jurisdiction. A pickup van carrying cattle was travelling from the Arwal direction when the accident took place.
As per available information, an excise department team was pursuing the pickup in a Scorpio. During this chase, the pickup driver lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with an oncoming motorcycle.
The impact was violent. The motorcycle riders fell onto the road and were badly hurt. Their legs were cut off in the collision, leaving the scene in a state of panic.
People nearby and police personnel helped the injured reach a hospital. After first aid, doctors found their condition to be critical and recommended referral to AIIMS Patna.
The victims have been identified as 22-year-old Munchun Kumar, a resident of Kheeri Mor Tola Bigha, and his 21-year-old wife Gyanti Devi. The couple was traveling from Patna to Paliganj when the crash happened.
The tragedy led to anger among villagers, who blocked the Rampur-Dulhinbazar main road and raised slogans in protest. The blockade affected movement on the highway until police intervened and tried to persuade the crowd.
