A shocking incident has occurred in the Rohtas district of Bihar. A priest allegedly murdered the Mahant (head priest) of a temple by striking him with a stone on Friday morning. The accused priest, identified as Subhash Chaubey, is a resident of Bahera village. Before committing the crime, he locked the other priests and devotees present in the temple inside a room and fled the scene.
The incident took place at the Vijay Raghav Temple in the Gandhi Nagar locality of Rohtas district. Witnesses reported that the Mahant, Shyam Narayan Ji Maharaj, had come down from the roof to fetch milk around 8 am. The accused priest attacked him from behind and then escaped. The injured Mahant was rushed to the hospital, but he died on the way.
According to reports, construction work is underway at the temple, with windows and doors removed and walls partially demolished. The accused reportedly used materials from the construction site to attack the Mahant. Three to four other monks and devotees were present during the attack. Following the incident, the police were informed, and they took possession of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
Local residents stated that the Mahant was severely injured in the attack, having sustained a head injury. He bled profusely. The Mahant died on the way to the hospital.
Reportedly, the priest accused of the murder was employed to serve the deity. A worker at the temple revealed that the accused priest had been seeking leave from the Mahant, which was denied. This led to an argument between the two. The priest had also received an advance payment for three to four months. The Mahant is said to have demanded the money back and told him to leave. Angered by this, the priest attacked the Mahant and fled. The police are currently searching for the accused.
