Rekha Gupta returns to contest Bankipur seat after BJP leader's resignation

After a brief political hiatus, Rekha Gupta is set to fight again from the Bankipur constituency, this time under the Rashtriya Janata Dal banner. Her re‑entry follows the unexpected resignation of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national president, which left the seat vacant and reignited local power dynamics. Gupta, who secured nearly 47,000 votes in the 2025 elections, is banking on her established voter base and the backing of RJD’s central leadership.

During the candidate launch, senior RJD figures Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Bholaa Yadav and Sunil Kumar Singh reiterated their confidence in Gupta’s ability to reclaim the seat. When reporters queried about possible joint opposition support for Prashant Kishor, the party’s spokesperson firmly dismissed any such arrangement, insisting that the alliance will respect the decisions made by each constituent party.
